Deal Town Council's community garden scheme is now open for applications. Three raised planting beds are available for local groups and charities to run, free of charge, encouraging people to engage with nature, gardening, physical activity, and the outdoors.
Summer Trial and Full Launch
The scheme begins with a trial run this summer before opening fully in spring 2027. The raised beds are located at the Park Avenue allotment site, which features improved pathways and handrails for accessibility, as well as a compost toilet for convenience.
Mayor's Statement
"We're delighted to get this project up and running and ready to trial this summer as there is lots of growing that can be done," said Mayor of Deal, Councillor Mike Eddy. "We're encouraging local groups to apply so those they support can experience the joy of growing their own food, being part of a team, and being closely involved in nature and our environment. Learning about where we sit in the cycle of nature, how to nurture and benefit from it are such rich experiences."
The summer trial runs from June 2026 to March 2027, and subsequent years will run the full 12 months from April to March. The deadline for summer applications is Friday, May 22. Further details about how to apply can be found on the council's website.
