A Lancashire care home is rallying the community to help a remarkable resident celebrate an incredible milestone. Margaret Phenix, a resident at HC-One’s Dove Court Care Home in Burnley, will turn 100 years old on December 20, 2025.
A Life of Service and Family
Margaret was born in Kirkcaldy, Scotland, in 1925 and has lived a full and eventful life. At just 17 years old, she joined the Royal Air Force, where she played a vital role in delivering essential goods by aircraft during her service. She recalls this period with immense pride.
She was married twice and shared many happy years with her later husband, Bill, until his passing in 1981. Margaret's legacy includes an incredibly large and loving family: 11 children, 20 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren, all of whom she has supported and inspired. Her life motto, which reflects her enduring positivity, is: “Take life how you find it, life is how you take it, just do your best.”
How to Help Make Her Centenary Special
To ensure Margaret's centenary is extra special, the care home has launched a heartfelt appeal. They are inviting friends, family, and the wider community to send birthday cards to mark the occasion.
Cards should be sent to the following address to be included in the celebrations: Wellbeing Team, HC-One’s Dove Court Residential and Nursing Home, Shuttleworth Street, Burnley, Lancashire, BB10 1EN.
It is crucial that all cards arrive by December 18, 2025, to be part of the festivities.
A Party to Remember
The centenary will be celebrated in style at Dove Court with a special party attended by family, friends, and special visitors. The festivities will include a buffet lunch, a birthday cake, afternoon tea, and entertainment provided by Kyle Harrison.
Catherine Brierley, general manager at HC-One’s Dove Court Care Home, said: "We are absolutely delighted to be celebrating Margaret’s 100th birthday. She is a truly remarkable resident whose positivity, resilience, and zest for life inspire everyone at Dove Court."
"Margaret has lived an extraordinary life, from her time in the RAF to raising her family, and we are thrilled to mark this milestone with her and the local community. We hope that everyone will join us in sending Margaret a card to make her centenary extra special."
