Coronation Street actor Antony Cotton has shared a deeply unsettling experience from renovating his Scarborough home, admitting he genuinely feared there might be 'corpses beneath the floorboards'.

The 50-year-old performer, famous for playing Sean Tully on the ITV soap for over two decades, made the shocking confession during an appearance on the Discovery+ programme Celebrity Help! My House Is Haunted.

A Chilling Discovery in a Converted Church

In startling footage, the television personality welcomed a team of paranormal experts into his transformed 18th-century church flat, located a mere 200 metres from the Scarborough shore.

He described the property's initial state as horrendous. "It was filthy, it stunk, it was freezing cold. The wind used to howl through the house," Cotton recalled. His most disturbing revelation, however, concerned the building's renovation. "I know there was potentially bodies in the floorboards! There were the remains of poor souls that perished at sea."

Scepticism Meets Supernatural Evidence

Despite his general disbelief in the paranormal, Cotton acknowledged that his partner, Peter, had an intensely negative reaction to the property. Peter 'hated it with a passion' and would sometimes refuse to even enter, preferring to wait in the car.

Intrigued by the history and the tales of forgotten souls within his home, Cotton sought answers. He told the investigative team, which included psychic medium Ian Lawman and paranormal investigators Katrina Weidman and Barri Ghai, "I'm ready to be shown that this stuff exists, I am!"

The investigation quickly yielded eerie results. As they approached the seafront property, medium Ian Lawman experienced a sensation of drowning in his throat, suggesting a profound sadness and a possible connection to the sea.

While exploring the flat with a candle, Lawman admitted to being confused, a rare occurrence for him. He noted, "the floor, as I look down my feet disappear! That normally indicates that something strange has happened on the original ground level floor."

The Ghostly Residents Revealed

Lawman soon became convinced the property was home to three distinct spirits: a younger spirit from a wartime period, an adult fisherman, and a wealthy American female performer from the 1920s.

The investigation took an even more concrete turn when researcher Katrina Weidman consulted a local historian. The historian confirmed fatalities were associated with the property, revealing that two bodies were found in separate sarcophagi, surrounded by 12th-century artefacts.

It was subsequently revealed that spirits named Josephine and Peter were haunting the building, with a producer on the show interjecting with an even more startling piece of information, confirming the actor's darkest suspicions about his home's grim history.
