Stapleford Couple Mark 65th Wedding Anniversary on Christmas Eve
Nottinghamshire couple celebrate 65th anniversary on Christmas Eve

A Nottinghamshire couple are celebrating a remarkable milestone today, as their wedding anniversary falls on Christmas Eve. Pat and Bob Pembleton, who live in Stapleford, are marking an incredible 65 years of marriage.

A Festive Family Reunion

The occasion is made extra special by the arrival of their two daughters, Linda Reynolds and Wendy Pembleton. They are travelling from their homes in New Zealand to spend several weeks with their parents at the family bungalow in Stapleford. Their daughter Lisa shared the family's joy, stating that while no large party is planned, they will certainly be toasting the achievement with champagne.

This reunion is particularly poignant as the couple's 60th anniversary in 2020 was overshadowed by lockdown restrictions. On that occasion, the family could only connect via a Zoom video call. "We're all really looking forward to having Christmas together and celebrating mum and dad's anniversary," Lisa said.

A Lifetime Together in Nottinghamshire

Pat and Bob's life together began when they exchanged vows at Lenton Parish Church on December 24, 1960. They had been courting for a few years and were very young. Pat was just 18 years old, while Bob was 22 and on leave from his National Service to get married.

The family settled in the area, first living on Kirkham Drive in Toton for around twelve years before moving to Park Road in Chilwell. After their daughters left home, Pat and Bob moved to their current bungalow in Stapleford, where they continue to live happily and independently.

Active Members of the Community

Beyond their family life, both have been deeply involved in their local community for decades. Bob served several terms as a local councillor, engaging in local politics. Pat has dedicated nearly 40 years to supporting her local keep-fit group and has also done voluntary work for the cancer support charity Macmillan.

Their story is a testament to enduring love, family bonds, and a lifelong commitment to their local area. This Christmas Eve, their home in Stapleford will be filled with the warmth of a rare and precious family gathering, celebrating 65 years of shared history.
