A young mother from Telford was left stunned after discovering she and her own mother were expecting babies at almost exactly the same time, before both later welcomed sons into the family.
Double Pregnancy Surprise
Meire Higgins, 21, found out she was pregnant with her first child Grayson, now two, in May 2023 when she was 18 years old. Just two months later, her mother Jodie Higgins, 39, revealed she was also expecting a baby. Neither pregnancy had been planned, leaving both women hugely surprised by the news.
Despite the initial shock, the pair quickly embraced the experience together and supported each other through every stage of pregnancy side by side. The mum-and-daughter duo attended hospital appointments together, helped organize each other’s gender reveals, and spent months comparing growing baby bumps.
A Bond Like No Other
Meire, a stay-at-home mum from Telford, Shropshire, said: 'Mum was so excited when I found out I was pregnant, she said she hoped it’d be a boy. Two months later, mum found out she was pregnant as well, she was scared to tell me at first, as she didn’t want to take the spotlight off me.' But Meire insisted she was thrilled by the news, telling her mum she 'wouldn’t want to go through pregnancy with anyone else.' She described the shared experience as 'truly the best experience' she had ever been through.
The family’s excitement only grew after both women discovered they were expecting boys. Friends and relatives reportedly bought matching outfits for the babies before they had even arrived.
Baby Boys Arrive
Meire gave birth to son Grayson on Christmas Day 2023, before Jodie welcomed baby Roux Bear two months later. Despite technically being uncle and nephew, the boys are said to share a bond more like brothers. 'The two boys are now inseparable and run around playing with each other all day,' Meire said. 'Their bond is truly amazing.'
Embracing Grandmotherhood
Jodie, who is also mum to a 13-year-old, 10-year-old and three-year-old, admitted she never expected to become pregnant again. She originally believed she was finished having children and was instead looking forward to becoming a grandmother. Jodie said: 'I wanted to enjoy being a nan and thought I was too old to do it again. I loved sharing every stage with Meire from scans to growing bumps, shopping for matching outfits for them, seeing my beautiful grandson being born and enjoying newborn cuddles even before my own baby arrived.'
The pair say their pregnancies brought them even closer together, with Meire describing her mum as her 'best friend.' She added that because Jodie had her at 17, they had always shared an especially close relationship. Now both boys attend nursery together and spend much of their time side by side. Meire said she hopes the close family connection means the pair will always support each other as they grow up together.
