Rossendale Ramblers' Festive Walks: From Rainy Rambles to Santa's Sleigh
Rossendale Ramblers Enjoy Festive Walks and Santa Sleigh

The Rossendale Ramblers embraced the festive spirit with a series of special Christmas walks, combining outdoor adventure with seasonal cheer, and have already planned their first outings of the New Year.

A Week of Festive Footsteps

The group's celebrations began on the Wednesday before Christmas, when 26 walkers tackled a six-mile route in rainy conditions. The break during this walk provided a chance to share some Christmas treats, albeit slightly soggy ones. Afterwards, they were joined by more members for a Christmas lunch at the Rossendale Sports Club, where 47 people enjoyed a meal, quizzes, and good company.

Sunshine, Tunnels, and a Magical Sleigh

The fine weather returned for their Saturday walk, where 14 ramblers embarked on a six-mile sunny circuit from Stacksteads to Edgeside. The route took them through restored railway tunnels, and they admired a new mural on a closed tunnel entrance. Most of the group then extended the socialising with a meal at a local pub.

The Christmas theme reached a magical peak on Sunday, when 15 walkers set off from Higham to Sabden and back. The highlight of this pleasant walk was the delightful surprise of spotting Thwaites' dray horse pulling a Santa sleigh along their route, a truly festive village scene.

Step into the New Year with the Ramblers

The group is not pausing for long, with two walks already scheduled for early January. On Wednesday, January 7, they will host a challenging 10-mile walk in Yorkshire, taking in Sowerby Bridge and Norland, perfect for working off the holiday indulgence. Then, on Sunday, January 11, a six-mile New Year walk and meal will begin from Holcombe Village.

All are welcome on their walks, which are free to try. After three walks, participants are asked to join The Ramblers association, which costs just £3.75 per month.
