A Tesco delivery driver has been caught on camera causing significant damage to a resident's property before driving away from the scene in Birmingham.
Shocking CCTV Captures Incident
The collision occurred on Garretts Green Lane in Sheldon at approximately 4.30pm on Thursday, January 8. Doorbell footage recorded the moment the supermarket van reversed onto the driveway and collided with the wall.
The resident, who spoke to BirminghamLive, stated they only found the damage the next day. "I only discovered the damage the following day, which was both shocking and distressing," they said.
Driver's 'Dangerous and Unacceptable' Behaviour
The homeowner expressed serious concern over the driver's actions. "The impact was loud enough to be heard clearly on the CCTV recording, yet the driver chose to ignore it and leave the scene," they explained.
They branded the conduct "dangerous and unacceptable", particularly from someone representing a major national retailer. The resident also criticised Tesco's initial response, claiming the company kept mentioning a customer survey instead of addressing the property damage.
"The wall is now unstable and poses a risk to children, families and dog walkers who regularly use the path," they added, highlighting the ongoing safety hazard.
Tesco Issues Apology and Response
Following the incident, a Tesco spokesperson offered an apology. “We’re really sorry for the damage caused,” they stated.
The spokesperson emphasised that "Our drivers are trained to take the utmost care during every delivery." They confirmed that the company is now "already in direct contact with the resident and are working with him to resolve the matter as quickly as possible."
The case underscores the importance of drivers reporting incidents immediately, regardless of how minor they may seem at the time.
