Time is running out for thousands of older Britons to claim vital financial support they may be entitled to, as HMRC launches an urgent new campaign.
Who Needs to Act Now?
The tax authority is specifically targeting people born between 1935 and 1955 who may be eligible for Pension Credit but haven't yet claimed. Many in this age group could be missing out on significant financial support during the ongoing cost of living crisis.
What's At Stake?
Successful claimants could receive a substantial £324 cost of living payment directly from the government. But there's a crucial deadline looming - to qualify for this specific payment, you must have been entitled to Pension Credit between August 26 and September 25, 2022.
Why Are People Missing Out?
According to HMRC, many eligible pensioners don't realise they qualify for Pension Credit, often assuming they have too much savings or that being a homeowner disqualifies them. The reality is that even small amounts of Pension Credit can open doors to additional support, including:
- Free TV licences for those aged 75+
- Help with NHS dental treatment and glasses
- Reduced council tax bills
- Warmer Homes Discount for energy bills
How to Check Your Eligibility
Myrtle Lloyd, HMRC's Director General for Customer Services, emphasised: "We want to make sure that everyone who is entitled to receive this extra financial support can do so. I'd urge anyone who thinks they may be eligible for Pension Credit to check online or call our helpline."
The simplest way to check is through the government's online Pension Credit calculator, which takes about 10 minutes to complete. Alternatively, you can call the Pension Credit claim line on 0800 99 1234.
Don't Delay - Act Today
Even if you've been turned down for Pension Credit in the past, your circumstances may have changed. With living costs continuing to rise, this support could make a significant difference to your financial wellbeing.
The message is clear: if you or someone you know falls into this age bracket, it's worth taking a few minutes to check eligibility. You could be hundreds of pounds better off.
