Liverpool Doubles Family Hubs with Five New Centres

Liverpool is set to significantly enhance its family support network with the launch of five new Family Hubs across the city during January and February. This expansion marks a major step in the council's commitment to providing accessible, localised services for all families.

A Wave of New Openings Across the City

The rollout begins with the Belle Vale Family Hub, which will officially open its doors on Wednesday, January 28. Based at the existing Belle Vale Children's Centre, the launch will be celebrated with a special community event. Families are invited to drop in without booking to enjoy a range of fun activities, receive valuable information and advice, and partake in provided refreshments.

Subsequent Launch Schedule

Following the Belle Vale opening, a further four hubs will commence operations in quick succession:

  • Stoneycroft Family Hub – Opening Monday, February 4
  • Dovedale Family Hub – Opening Monday, February 17
  • Fazakerley Family Hub – Opening Tuesday, February 18
  • Wavertree Family Hub – Opening Wednesday, February 19

Doubling Capacity and Achieving Neighbourhood Coverage

Once these five new hubs are fully operational, the total number of Family Hubs in Liverpool will have doubled from five to ten. This initiative is part of a broader council plan to establish a total of 12 hubs, ensuring that every community in the city has a dedicated centre close to home. The expansion builds upon the foundation laid by the existing Children's Centres.

What is a Family Hub?

A Family Hub serves as a central, welcoming point for coordinated support. It is designed for all families with children and young people aged 0-19, extending to 25 for those with special educational needs or disabilities. These hubs provide a comprehensive range of resources, including:

  • Information and advice on health, education, and wellbeing
  • Organised family activities and events
  • A supportive environment for the entire community

Council Commitment to Community Support

Councillor Joanne Kennedy, Cabinet Member for Employment, Educational Attainment and Skills at Liverpool City Council, emphasised the importance of this expansion. "Our ambition is that every neighbourhood in Liverpool can access their own Family Hub, and this expansion means that we're now delivering that," she stated.

"Family Hubs are there to ensure families can find a multitude of resources and activities designed to support their health, education, and wellbeing, in a supportive environment. Please go and visit your local Family Hub once it's open to find out more about the services they can offer."

This strategic development follows the successful opening of the Kensington Family Hub in November last year, demonstrating the council's ongoing investment in vital community infrastructure.
