Birmingham's Largest Traveller Camp on Parkland Near Asda

This is the extraordinary footage of Birmingham's biggest traveller encampment this year. Around 50 caravans, motorhomes and vehicles were seen on parkland at Barnes Hill, located close to the Asda superstore.

It was thought the arrivals made their way onto the playing field last night, Tuesday, June 9.

Locals said they were shocked by the huge numbers of the camp.

This came after more than 20 caravans pulled onto Parkdale Park, just off Longbridge Lane, in the West Heath area of Birmingham, last week. Locals there said they were "on alert and living in fear" following incidents of previous stone-throwing and alleged thefts.

Travellers were also seen previously at Daisy Farm Park in Highter's Heath in recent days.

The council said there were alternative sites for travellers in the city.

"Birmingham City Council is committed to actively protecting its land and will take steps to recover this land where unauthorised encampments encroach upon it," the council said in a statement.

"The council has useable transit sites and plots for use by the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller community – which is in line with Government policy. Details of the Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Assessment carried out and updated in 2019 can be found on our website."
