Emmerdale Reveals Kammy's Hidden Homelessness Storyline

Emmerdale bosses have confirmed a heartbreaking new storyline for Kammy Hadiq, revealing the beloved character is secretly homeless. Kammy Hadiq (played by Shebz Miah) is currently sleeping in a vehicle and barns while holding down a job and embarking on a new relationship. The show aims to highlight the issue of hidden homelessness, showing that people can be living on the edge of society while maintaining a facade of normalcy.

Hidden Homelessness Storyline

Producer Sophie Roper explained: "This storyline is a vital look at hidden homelessness, showing that people can be living on the edge of society, sleeping in their vehicle or barns, while still successfully holding down a job and maintaining relationships. For many reasons, a person's circumstances can change dramatically, and we wanted to challenge the perception of what homelessness looks like and prove that what people present to the outside world isn't necessarily the whole story. We hope this narrative encourages our viewers to look closer and remember that things are not always quite as they seem."

The programme has worked with charities such as The Salvation Army to accurately depict Kammy's situation. Once his plight is known, the villagers rally to support him.

Upcoming Episodes

Next week, Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper) visits Kammy at work and uses Eid as an excuse to probe about his family. When she sees the idea makes him uncomfortable, she worries she's overstepped. Kammy has to leave in a hurry when Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) texts him about another fire. Seeing how stressed Robert Sugden (Ryan Haelwy) is about the arsonist, Aaron encourages him to take a break.

As they head to the pub, neither sees a shadowy figure watching them from the barn. Tensions are still high at the garage as Aaron notes how tired Kammy looks, and Robert is agitated over the whole arsonist scenario. Kammy's awkward when Belle asks if she can meet his family again. When he uses a sharp tone to shut the idea down, Belle is taken aback. Soon, Belle finds herself wanting to check Kammy's phone and is disgusted at herself.

She tells Dawn she can't believe she almost invaded his privacy, but still feels like there's something he's not telling her. Unbeknownst to them, in a barn on Emmerdale Farm, Kammy sets up for the night. A sleeping bag is rolled out, revealing that Kammy is homeless.

Dramatic Confrontation

Finding Kammy in the field carrying a petrol can and lighter, Robert and Aaron are quick to assume he's the arsonist. As snappy Robert grabs him by the jacket, Kammy is wretched as he admits he was planning to torch his car. When Aaron is afraid Robert is going too far and intervenes, Kammy makes a run for it. After another fire, Aaron loses it and calls the police, and Kammy is carted off in a police car.

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 at 8pm and is available to stream from 7am on ITVX.
