BBC Strictly Star Lauren Oakley Slams 'Disgraceful' Passengers on Birmingham to London Train
BBC Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer Lauren Oakley has launched a scathing public criticism against a group of male passengers she encountered on a train journey from Birmingham International to London Euston. The incident occurred on Friday, March 27, 2026, aboard the 10:58 service.
Social Media Outburst Over Offensive Remarks
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Oakley did not hold back in her condemnation. She directly addressed the individuals involved, writing: "To the group of cis white men on the 10.58 train from BHX to Euston, the way you are speaking about women is disgraceful. You should be ashamed of yourselves. And I only hope men don’t speak about your daughters in this way."
She further elaborated on her post, expressing disgust at both their views and their lack of consideration for fellow passengers. "The fact that you think in this way in the first place is abominable - and the way you think the whole carriage wants to hear your conversation is disgusting," Oakley added.
Public Support and Wider Conversation
The post quickly garnered significant attention and support from her followers and the wider public. One fan responded with concern, stating: "It's a horrible society we live in hope your ok." Another comment highlighted a broader societal issue: "Some men have very terrifying and awful views on women. It makes me feel so sick. Women are incredible and do not deserve any of this behaviour."
Others offered sympathy and shared similar experiences. One user replied: "I’m really sorry you had to experience this Lauren, thank you for speaking up," while another noted, "Happens a lot on modern public transport," suggesting the incident is not isolated.
Context: Changes Within Strictly Come Dancing
This incident comes amidst a period of change for the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing. On the same day, fellow professional dancer Luba Mushtuk announced her departure from the show, becoming the third dancer to leave this month.
Mushtuk, who is Russian-born, shared the news on Instagram, writing: "With a heart full of gratitude, the time has come for me to step away from Strictly Come Dancing." She expressed deep gratitude for her time on the program and excitement for future endeavors, mentioning her participation in the upcoming Pro Tour. Her exit follows those of colleagues Nadiya Bychkova and Karen Hauer earlier in March.
Lauren Oakley's public stance has sparked a conversation about respectful behavior on public transport and the treatment of women in public spaces, highlighting issues that extend beyond the glittering world of television dance competitions.
