An urgent call has been made for intensified searches for a 26-year-old who went missing from the Midlands months ago. Montgomery "Monty" Lewis, who identifies as gender-neutral, was last seen at their home in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, on December 8 last year. The family reported them missing to police in February.
Human Rights Association Calls for Action
The Human Rights Association (HRA) has issued an urgent call on West Mercia Police and relevant authorities to intensify all available search resources in the case. With the support of West Mercia Search and Rescue (WMSAR), targeted searches were conducted across Haughmond Hill using quad bikes, drones, boats, and specialist river equipment. Despite these efforts, Monty has not been found.
West Mercia Police have stated that Monty Lewis could be anywhere in the United Kingdom. The HRA urges anyone with information to contact the police immediately.

HRA Chairman Saad Kassis-Mohamed said: "Monty Lewis is a 26-year-old person whose family does not know where they are. Four months of searches have not produced answers. The volunteers of West Mercia Search and Rescue have given an extraordinary commitment to this effort and we commend them for it. But voluntary effort alone is not sufficient. The authorities must ensure that every available resource remains deployed, that Monty’s family is supported at every stage, and that the public appeal is sustained with the urgency this situation demands. Every person who goes missing deserves to be found."
Call for NHS and Health Services Vigilance
The HRA additionally calls on NHS and mental health services in Shropshire and across England to be alert to the possibility that Monty may present at a welfare or health setting. They urge that appropriate identification and reporting protocols be in place to ensure Monty's safe return.
