A long-standing Blackburn scout group has been given a significant financial boost to kickstart a major renovation of its facilities. Immanuel Feniscowles Scout Group has received a £1,000 donation from housebuilder Barratt Homes to support vital groundwork at its site.
Funding for Foundation and Future Growth
The generous contribution will be used specifically to rebuild a stone wall and prepare a stable, level base on the group's grounds. This essential initial phase paves the way for the future construction of a new scout hut. The project is designed to create a safer and more versatile space for all members, directly benefiting around 50 local young people.
Susie Veevers, the group's lead volunteer, emphasised the transformative power of scouting. "The work we do is incredibly important for the personal development and well-being of young people," she said. "Scouting is proven to improve mental health, enhance employability and foster strong community engagement. Our improved facilities will enable us to open our doors to more local groups and schools, expanding our positive impact across the community."
A Vision for an Accessible Community Hub
The overarching ambition for the site extends beyond just the scout group. The project aims to establish an accessible community space for year-round use, focusing on outdoor education, intergenerational activities, and skill-building for all ages. While the Barratt Homes donation covers this crucial first stage, the group is actively seeking further funding to complete its vision.
The next phases of the project involve purchasing the new scout hut itself, adding a covered multi-functional area, and improving access to the surrounding woodland. These enhancements would significantly increase the site's utility for the wider Feniscowles and Blackburn community.
Building Stronger Communities Together
Rhys Nicholson, Managing Director at Barratt Homes Manchester, explained the company's motivation for supporting the group. "The scouts offer such an incredible opportunity to children of all ages, so we are delighted to play our part in making this donation and helping to improve their facilities for the benefit of their members," he stated.
Immanuel Feniscowles Scout Group has been a fixture in the area since its founding in 1949. Based at Immanuel Church Hall in Feniscowles, Blackburn, it operates Beaver, Cub, Scout, and Explorer sections, providing continuous adventure and development for generations of young people.
