A group of enthusiastic children experienced a day they will never forget after a special visit to the life-saving Magpas Air Ambulance service in Huntingdon.
A Day of Discovery and Excitement
The event was organised by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) for eighteen children who are either bereaved or have a sibling receiving care at the Milton hospice. These youngsters had the incredible opportunity to explore the vital work of the air ambulance crew up close.
During their visit, the children got to wear the actual kit used by the crew and learned about the specialised equipment carried on board the helicopter. They engaged with a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) simulator, played games, discovered the history of Magpas, and even met the service's mascot, Bravo.
Seeing the Helicopter in Action
The excitement peaked when the group witnessed the helicopter spring into action. Ceri Dobson, EACH’s groups and events coordinator at Milton, said the children were fascinated by the helicopter and the crew's work.
"We were fortunate to see the helicopter in action, and it was a brilliant experience that everyone thoroughly enjoyed," Dobson remarked. She also praised the children's behaviour, noting how well they bonded from the start and how new friendships quickly formed.
Building Bonds and Lasting Memories
The day proved to be more than just an educational trip; it was a profound opportunity for connection and support. Dobson highlighted how a group of boys got on particularly well, and the comfort level was so high that the children even wanted to sing songs on the coach journey home.
The entire day, which started and finished at the Milton hospice, was made possible with transport provided completely free of charge by long-term supporters, the Cambridge-based Dews Coaches.
