Married At First Sight Australia's Rachel Gilmore has opened up about the real reason she and Steven Danyluk ended their relationship just days after filming the Final Vows episode. The couple, who had re-committed to each other during a heartfelt ceremony, shocked fans when they arrived separately at the reunion dinner party.
The Breakup Revealed
Rachel, 35, disclosed that Steven ended things shortly after the Final Vows, leaving her devastated. "Heartbreak is the worst. It sucks. It's like a physical illness," she told New Idea. She explained that Steven quickly made excuses not to visit her in Melbourne, confirming her fears about a long-distance relationship.
"I was willing to put in the effort, but ultimately it happened exactly the way I was concerned it was going to happen," Rachel said. "Steven went back to life in Sydney. He was busy with work, and I became a burden."
Hurtful Insults and Pushback
As the relationship soured, Steven reportedly hurled hurtful insults. Rachel shared that he called visiting her a "hassle" and said, "I don't even know if we're going to work in the future." When he finally visited Melbourne, he spent most of the time trying to end the relationship, telling her he couldn't give her what she needed.
"We circled in this conversation until I went, 'so I guess we're done then?' And he looks at me, and I said, 'Well, you've dumped me about 15 times now,'" Rachel recalled.
Deception and Moving On
Rachel later learned that Steven had been dishonest about his whereabouts during the experiment, lying about being at the gym when he was with other cast members. This revelation added to her pain. Now, she has moved on and is focusing on having fun with her best friend Alissa Fay.
Reflecting on the relationship, Rachel realized Steven wasn't ready for a commitment. "It was Steven's life, and I had to adapt to it. He wasn't ready for a relationship," she concluded.
