Bridgerton's Lincolnshire Filming Locations Revealed
The latest season of Netflix's hit period drama Bridgerton has captivated audiences, with its fourth season premiering recently. As viewers immerse themselves in the romantic escapades of Benedict Bridgerton, played by Luke Thompson, many are left wondering about the stunning backdrops that bring the Regency world to life. The answer lies, in part, in the historic county of Lincolnshire.
Burghley House Makes Its Bridgerton Debut
One of the most significant additions to the show's roster of filming locations is Burghley House, a magnificent 16th-century Elizabethan estate located in Lincolnshire. Situated approximately 90 minutes by car from Derby city centre, this grand house is celebrated as one of England's finest surviving examples of a 'prodigy house', originally built to honour Queen Elizabeth I.
In season four, Burghley House transforms into Penwood Park, the residence of Lady Araminta Gun. The property's dramatic turreted chimneys and impeccably designed landscapes, originally crafted by the renowned Capability Brown, provide a perfect, opulent setting for the series. Inside, visitors can admire magnificent Italian Old Master artwork and intricate carvings by Grinling Gibbons, offering a glimpse into the luxurious lifestyles of the era.
Lincolnshire's Previous Bridgerton Connection
This is not the first time Lincolnshire has served as a backdrop for the Bridgerton universe. In the spin-off series, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, Belton House, a National Trust property, was used as the primary filming location for King George's residence. The production involved extensive preparations, including emptying and protecting ten rooms within the house.
Filming took place in various areas of Belton House, such as the Italian Garden, Orangery, Marble Hall, scullery, and kitchen corridors. The crew even planted a vegetable garden featuring cabbage, onions, sweetcorn, tomatoes, carrots, kale, and potatoes to enhance the authenticity of the scenes. Ian Cooper, General Manager at Belton House, shared insights into the behind-the-scenes efforts, noting that the Marble Hall was completely transformed to serve as the King's bedroom, with new flooring, walls, and window coverings installed.

Bridgerton season four is available to stream on Netflix in two parts.
