Amy Dowden Lands New BBC One Show Role Amid Health Journey
Amy Dowden's new BBC One Show presenting role

Strictly Come Dancing professional Amy Dowden has announced an exciting new career move, securing a presenting role on the BBC's flagship programme, The One Show.

A New Role on a Major Show

The 35-year-old dancer, who is currently unable to perform in group dances on Strictly as she recovers from a second mastectomy, revealed she will be stepping in as a host. The show, which airs on BBC One at 7pm, is watched by an audience of around three million viewers each night.

Amy shared the news with her followers on Instagram, posting: "Heading to the @bbctheoneshow tonight. Tune in or catch up on @bbciplayer if you can." She expressed her gratitude, adding, "Feeling so very grateful right now. Happy Friday all! Welsh love."

Navigating Health and Career

This new opportunity comes during a challenging period for the dancer. Amy was first diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in 2023, leading to a mastectomy and chemotherapy. This forced her to pull out of Strictly Come Dancing during her treatment.

After a return to the dance competition in 2024, her journey was interrupted again by a stress fracture in her foot. This year, she was the first contestant to be eliminated, paired with The Apprentice star Thomas Skinner. She has since announced that doctors advised her to undergo another mastectomy and she is once again undergoing treatment.

Despite these setbacks, Amy's spirit remains high. She recently shared her frustration and optimism about being back with the Strictly team, stating, "So excited to be back supporting the couples tonight! It’s been three years since I’ve been part of the @bbcstrictly Blackpool Show! I wanna dance so badly, but just need to be patient! Grateful to be here."

A Grateful Step Forward

Her new presenting gig on Friday, November 28, marks a significant and positive step in her career, allowing her to remain a prominent figure on BBC television while she focuses on her health. In a follow-up video on Instagram, she confirmed her role, answering an off-camera question by saying, "I am doing a bit of presenting for The One Show."
