Heated Rivalry Season 2 to Feature New Gay Hockey Couple & More Romance
Heated Rivalry Season 2 Adds New Gay Hockey Couple

Fans of the hit series Heated Rivalry have been given exciting news about what to expect in the show's highly anticipated second season. Author Rachel Reid has confirmed that while the central love story of Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov will remain the focus, a brand new gay ice hockey couple will be introduced to the mix.

Which Game Changers Books Will Season 2 Adapt?

In a recent interview with Variety, Rachel Reid provided crucial details about the source material for the upcoming season. She assured viewers that Shane and Ilya will not be sidelined, stating it wouldn't be popular to shift to a totally different couple. However, the narrative will expand significantly.

Reid revealed that season 2 will be "mostly" based on the sixth and final book in the series, The Long Game, which follows the established couple's ongoing journey. Intriguingly, she also confirmed that elements from another book in the franchise, Role Model, will be woven into the storyline. This means fans will get a dual narrative, following Shane and Ilya while also being introduced to a fresh romance.

Meet the New Couple: Troy Barrett and Harris Drover

The new pairing set to debut comes directly from Role Model. The book tells the story of grumpy hockey player Troy Barrett, who finds himself traded to the league's worst team. To rehabilitate his public image, he is paired with the team's upbeat social media manager, Harris Drover. Their professional relationship soon develops into a secret, spark-filled romance.

Based on Reid's comments, Heated Rivalry season 2 will likely intercut Troy and Harris's burgeoning love story with the continued saga of Shane and Ilya. This approach promises to enrich the show's universe and offer more perspectives on life and love in professional sports.

More Screen Time for Fan Favourites

The interview also addressed the surprising popularity of another couple from the Game Changers world. Reid noted that the show's adaptation has led to a huge fan response for Scott Hunter and Kip Grady, who first appeared in Rachel Reid's book Game Changers.

The production team is now actively looking for ways to include more of Scott and Kip in the second season, responding to audience demand. This means viewers can expect even more romantic storylines intertwined with the high-stakes world of professional ice hockey.

While no official release date has been set beyond the initial mention of 6 January 2026, Reid expressed hope for a longer season. She stated a desire for up to 12 episodes, though acknowledged that 8 or 10 would also be a welcome increase from the first season.

The second season of Heated Rivalry is shaping up to be a deeper dive into the beloved literary universe, promising to deliver the same heart, heat, and hockey that captivated audiences, while expanding its world with new characters and beloved favourites.
