An exhibition honouring the legendary rock star Ozzy Osbourne has been granted a major extension, allowing fans more time to explore his incredible legacy. Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery has announced that the 'Ozzy Osbourne: Working Class Hero' exhibition will now remain open until 27 September 2026, following an overwhelming public response.
From Aston to the World: A Free Tribute
The free exhibition, a collaboration between the museum, Central BID Birmingham, and Sharon Osbourne Management, first opened its doors on 25 June 2025. The launch was timed to coincide with Ozzy's final performance at his historic homecoming concert at Villa Park. It was officially opened by his wife, Sharon Osbourne.
The display charts the journey of the 'Prince of Darkness' from his roots as 'a working-class kid from Aston' to a global rock icon. Visitors can view a stunning array of his personal accolades, including Grammy Awards, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame honours, MTV awards, and his stars from both the Hollywood Walk of Fame and Birmingham's own Walk of Stars. A selection of his platinum and gold discs is also on show, accompanied by photography and video footage.
A Moving Tribute from Fans
A particularly poignant element of the exhibition is the fans' tribute wall. This feature was unveiled on 3 December 2025, which would have been Ozzy's 77th birthday. It contains 77 messages carefully selected from over 50,000 tributes left in books of condolence across Birmingham following the singer's death on 22 July 2025.
Hundreds more of these heartfelt messages are displayed as part of a film within the exhibition. The film also includes footage of the tens of thousands of mourners who lined the streets of Birmingham city centre to pay their final respects as his funeral cortege passed by.
Unprecedented Demand Leads to Extension
The public's desire to celebrate Ozzy's life and career has been nothing short of extraordinary. Since opening, the exhibition has welcomed more than 425,000 visitors. It was originally scheduled to close in September 2025, but due to its immediate popularity, it was first extended to 18 January 2026. This new announcement secures its place for another eight months.
Sharon Osbourne expressed her pride, stating: "We are so proud that Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery asked to extend Ozzy Osbourne: Working Class Hero, and that more fans will now have the opportunity to go through the exhibit."
Sam Watson, chair of Central BID Birmingham, commented on the "phenomenal" demand, thanking the Osbourne family for allowing the extension so fans from the UK and worldwide can celebrate Ozzy's "extraordinary life and achievements."
Zak Mensah and Sara Wajid, co-chief executives of Birmingham Museums Trust, added: "The public response continues to show the love and affection for Ozzy in Birmingham and beyond. We are very pleased to announce that it will now be on display until September 2026."
The exhibition is sponsored by Ocean Outdoor and supported by Birmingham City Council and Aston Villa FC.
