The entertainment world is in mourning following the death of actor and comedian Pat Finn at the age of 60. Finn passed away on Tuesday at his Los Angeles home, surrounded by his family, after a private, multi-year battle with cancer.
A Private Struggle and a Public Legacy
Pat Finn had been diagnosed with cancer several years ago, though the specific type was never publicly disclosed. After entering remission in 2022, he faced the tragic return and spread of the illness. His passing was confirmed on 24 December 2025.
While fans will instantly recognise him as Dr Roger from the global phenomenon Friends, Finn enjoyed a rich and varied career. He was a recurring presence as Bill Norwood on the hit ABC sitcom The Middle from 2011 to 2018. His television credits also included memorable guest spots on Seinfeld as Joe Mayo and roles in The George Wendt Show and Murphy Brown.
Tributes from Friends and Colleagues
News of his death prompted an outpouring of grief from the comedy community. Comedian Jeff Dye remembered him on social media platform X, writing: "He wasn't just a celebrity to me. He was a friend. One of the best dudes I knew with a PERFECT sense of humour."
Writer and performer Brian Stack shared a heartfelt tribute, stating he was "heartbroken" and calling Finn "as kind as he was brilliantly hilarious." He posted a nostalgic video of Finn with his baby daughter, Cassidy. Another friend, known as The World Wrestling Kid, recalled Finn's "sincere kindness" and their chats over drinks.
From Chicago Stages to University Lecturer
Born on 31 July 1965, Finn grew up in Chicago where his passion for the performing arts first took root. He carved out a successful career as a comic and actor, emerging alongside his university friend, the late comedy star Chris Farley.
Beyond acting, Finn was dedicated to education. He served as an adjunct professor at the University of Colorado, where he taught Improv for Strategic Communications.
He leaves behind his wife Donna, whom he married in 1990, and their three children: Cassidy, Caitlin, and Ryan. His legacy is one of laughter, kindness, and significant contributions to some of television's most beloved comedies.
