Off Campus actor Antonio Capriano has revealed why a major scene involving his character Logan was changed from the original book. In an interview, Capriano explained that the alteration was made to deepen Logan's storyline and romantic feelings for Hannah.
Logan's Role Differs in the Show
In Elle Kennedy's Off Campus books, Logan is a loyal friend to Garrett without any romantic tension. However, the Prime Video series introduces a crush on Hannah, creating conflict. Additionally, Logan's sister Jules was created exclusively for the show.
The Kiss Scene Switch
One fan-favorite scene in the book has Hannah kissing Dean to make Garrett jealous. In the series, Hannah kisses Logan instead, unaware of his feelings. Capriano said: "Obviously I loved the scene in the book. I was like, 'Oh that's genius! That's hilarious.' But I think it is a brilliant move to have her fake kiss Logan and for that to be like 'Oh sh--. I'm in. I felt sparks. It's just the fuel.'"
His co-star Stephen Kalyn added: "It really raises the stakes a lot more for your character too."
Creator's Perspective
Showrunner Louisa Levy told Variety: "Changing it to Logan allowed us to play on his crush and support his story in a way that kiss doesn't necessarily support Dean's story this season. We launched Logan's feelings in the pilot and this let us deepen that slow burn." She added that the change made more narrative sense for each character's arc.
Fans are divided on whether they prefer Logan's new storyline. The series continues to adapt the books with creative liberties, sparking discussion among viewers.
