The granddaughter of the late British fashion pioneer Dame Vivienne Westwood has posted a moving online tribute to mark three years since her grandmother's passing.
A Granddaughter's Emotional Words
Cora Corre, who modelled in Westwood's shows as a child, shared a series of photographs alongside a poignant caption on social media. She wrote about the difficulty of navigating a world without her grandmother's guiding presence.
"3 years of missing you, wondering what you'd say, what you'd think of the world that's only increasingly hardened but also softened with good people too," Cora expressed.
She added a powerful affirmation of her grandmother's legacy, stating: "One thing I know to be true is you'd never waiver from your morals, heart and good intentions and that I will always look forward with whilst also looking back, missing and cherishing every single part of you."
Fans and Followers Share Their Memories
The post quickly attracted an outpouring of emotion from Dame Vivienne's admirers. One fan recalled attempting to hand-deliver a master's thesis dedicated to Westwood's work during Paris Fashion Week in September 2022.
"Since it wasn't possible, I mailed it to her later. I've always wondered if she ever got a chance to see it..." the fan commented, according to a report by the Mirror. Another simply stated: "Truly an icon on all fronts, we miss you!"
Continuing a Legacy of Activism
Dame Vivienne Westwood died peacefully at her home in Clapham, South London, on 29th December 2022, at the age of 81. Her fashion house announced the news, emphasising that "the world needs people like Vivienne to make a change for the better."
Cora has previously used these anniversaries to reflect on her grandmother's activist spirit. Last year, she noted the "deafening silence" from parts of the fashion industry on global conflicts and urged others to continue Westwood's fight.
"Vivienne used her platform to continuously challenge the injustice in the world," Cora stated. She encouraged people to "share your stage, shed light on the issues and speak up for the people that don't have a voice...and let Vivienne's fight continue through you."
The tribute concluded with a powerful call to action, quoting Westwood herself: "'This is a war for the very existence of the human race. And that of the planet. The most important weapon we have is public opinion. Become a freedom fighter.'"
