BBC presenter and Britain's Got Talent judge Amanda Holden has spoken candidly about her emotional reaction to completing her latest television project, describing a profound sense of 'heartbreak'.
The 'Worst' Property Transformation To Date
Holden, 54, made the admission while promoting the new series of her popular BBC renovation programme, which she fronts alongside her close friend and comedian Alan Carr. The duo have taken their property makeover skills overseas for the latest season, purchasing a fourth renovation project on the Greek island of Corfu.
Both television personalities were united in declaring the Corfu house their most difficult challenge so far. Speaking to Woman magazine, Alan Carr revealed the shocking initial state of the property, noting it lacked stairs, proper floors, and even windows. He quipped about finding what appeared to be blood, which turned out to be red paint, and a solitary 'poo' on the premises.
An Emotional Farewell to Greece
Amanda Holden explained that while she always feels sad when a project concludes, this Greek venture was particularly tough. "We're always heartbroken when we leave, but this was the worst one to leave," she confessed. The decision to film in Greece was born from a shared love of the country; Holden holidays there annually with her husband, Chris Hughes, and their two daughters, Lexi, 19, and Hollie, 13.
She told the BBC that the idea began as a fantasy. "We were fantasizing, saying oh, wouldn't it be amazing if we could do a show in Greece… we never actually thought it would be a reality!"
Gearing Up For Bigger DIY Challenges
Alan Carr admitted that the sight of the dilapidated house initially daunted them, causing his heart to sink. However, he emphasised that the final transformation was 'mind-blowing'. He also revealed that with each series, the pair must push their DIY skills further to keep audiences engaged.
"We have to do things we haven't done, or people are just not going to watch," Carr stated. For the Corfu project, this included the nerve-wracking task of constructing a floating bed, which he described as being 'completely out of my comfort zone'.
The new episodes of Amanda and Alan’s Greek Job continue on BBC One at 9pm on Friday evenings.
