Channel 4 Cancels Final Episode of Celebrity Bake Off Following Scott Mills Controversy
Channel 4 has announced it will not broadcast the final episode of The Great Celebrity Bake Off For Stand Up To Cancer due to allegations against contestant Scott Mills. The decision comes after the former Radio 2 DJ was dismissed by the BBC and faced a police investigation into historical sexual offence claims.
Network Takes Decisive Action
A spokesperson for Channel 4 stated, "Having carefully considered the circumstances, we’ve taken the decision not to air the final episode of the 2026 series of The Great Celebrity Bake Off For Stand Up to Cancer, featuring Scott Mills." They emphasized that given the seriousness of the accusations, airing the episode would be inappropriate at this time. Instead, an alternative episode of the show will be televised.
Background of the Allegations
Scott Mills, aged 53, was sacked by the BBC shortly before it was revealed that the Metropolitan Police had launched an investigation in 2016 over allegations of serious sexual offences. The BBC confirmed it was aware of a police investigation into a historical sexual offence in 2017 but acted decisively after receiving new information prior to his dismissal. Mills has cooperated fully with the police investigation, which involves allegations of a sexual offence with a teenage boy under 16 between 1997 and 2000.
Impact on Charities and Other Roles
Following his termination, Mills stepped back from his role as an ambassador for MS Society UK on April 7. Additionally, children’s cancer charity Neuroblastoma UK decided to part ways with him, ending his patronage since 2021. He has also been dropped as the host of the BBC’s new Race Across The World spin-off podcast.
Series Details and Celebrity Participants
The 2026 series of the celebrity edition of The Great British Bake Off has been airing weekly since March 22. Celebrity contestants this season have included Molly-Mae Hague, JoJo Siwa, and Vicky Pattison, who have been competing in the iconic tent. Despite the cancellation of the final episode, the show’s alternative broadcast will proceed as scheduled.
