EastEnders Flashforward Scene Faces Continuity Issue After Scott Mills' BBC Exit

EastEnders viewers have raised concerns about a potential continuity error in the BBC soap's flashforward storyline, following the dismissal of BBC Radio 2 presenter Scott Mills from the corporation.

The radio DJ and television presenter hosted his final show on Tuesday, March 24, after an investigation into allegations regarding his personal conduct. Despite concluding the broadcast by telling fans he would return the next day, Mills was replaced and it was announced that his contract had been terminated, ending his 28-year tenure at the BBC.

Flashforward Episode Features Mills in Voice Cameo

Earlier this year, Mills made a brief voice cameo in a flashforward episode of EastEnders that depicted events set on New Year's Day in 2027. The episode, which aired on January 1, featured Mills interacting with the Branning family via the radio in his former role.

In the scene, Mills says, "How is 2027 going for you? Time for some messages – Max Branning, good luck on your wedding day. Wow – it says here, fifth time lucky. That is from Oscar, hotter than ever in 2027. I am guessing you wrote that yourself, Oscar! And that one is also from Lauren too!"

Fans Highlight the Continuity Problem

With the scene set in the EastEnders universe in 2027, numerous fans have pointed out that Mills' recent dismissal creates a continuity error, as his character would not logically be on the BBC at that future date.

One fan noted on X, "Scott Mills was on the radio in the #EastEnders flashforward so that's going to have to be retconned." Another wrote, "How will EastEnders explain that one - Scott Mills sacked from the BBC!!! Bit awkward he was featured in the flash forward episode." A third remarked, "Scott Mills has given the EastEnders writers the worse scenario."

The soap is also available to stream on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes are released early at 6am before their television broadcast.
