Gladiators Star Jodie Ounsley Unveils Emotional Tattoo Honoring Late Father

Jodie Ounsley, the athlete who portrays Fury on the hit BBC series Gladiators, has publicly revealed a deeply personal tattoo dedicated to her father, Phil, following his unexpected death late last year. The tribute, inked on his birthday, captures a poignant moment from their final training session together.

Sudden Loss of a Beloved Father

Phil Ounsley passed away at the age of 56 in November 2025 while hiking Pen-y-ghent in North Yorkshire, a route he had traversed numerous times. His sudden illness during the walk shocked his family and friends, leaving Jodie and her mother grieving the loss of a man described as an absolute hero.

Phil was not only a devoted father but also a former police inspector, rugby player, and the 2007 world coal carrying champion, embodying a spirit of strength and resilience that deeply influenced Jodie.

A Permanent Memorial in Ink

The black and white tattoo, which Jodie got with her mother on Phil's birthday, depicts her hand clasped in her father's as they arm wrestle. This design was inspired by a photograph from their last joint training session, a memory Jodie now cherishes permanently.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Jodie shared the tattoo alongside the original photo, writing: We trained together my whole life. You were my dad but you were also my favourite training partner. This tattoo is from the photo of our last session together. I didn’t know it would be the last one so I’m keeping that moment with me.

She added that she still hears his encouraging words: Keep pushing, R’ Kid.

Outpouring of Support from Fans and Followers

The emotional reveal prompted an immediate flood of supportive comments from Jodie's friends and followers on social media. Many praised the tribute as fantastic and amazing, with one person noting it was so special and that Phil would be proud.

This gesture not only honors Phil's memory but also highlights the close bond they shared through fitness and training, a legacy that continues to inspire Jodie in her career and personal life.
