Knife Angel Sculpture Arrives in Plymouth for Anti-Violence Tour

The renowned 'Knife Angel' sculpture is continuing its impactful National Youth Anti-Violence tour across the United Kingdom, with its latest destination being the city of Plymouth. This striking artwork has been positioned in Plymouth's town centre, where it will remain on display for an entire month between the Civic Centre and Guildhall buildings. Each evening, the sculpture will be beautifully illuminated, enhancing its presence and message.

Educational Initiatives and Community Engagement

During the Knife Angel's stay in Plymouth, a comprehensive series of educational awareness activities will be implemented. These programs involve collaboration with schools, multi-academy trusts, youth services, domestic abuse specialists, mental health providers, substance misuse services, community and voluntary groups, faith organisations, and Mike's Trust. This collective effort underscores a shared commitment to addressing violence in all its forms and fostering safer communities.

Personal Impact and Family Perspectives

The family of Michael Riddiough-Allen, who tragically lost his life to a stabbing outside Eclipse Nightclub in Bodmin on April 30, 2023, has expressed strong support for the sculpture. His sister, Becky Dustan, shared her thoughts, stating, "To see it in our region is incredible and the power it has to open those conversations and to have people talking about knife crime is wonderful. We looked at this just after we lost Mike. We could see how amazing it was then."

Record-Breaking Tour and National Reach

Constructed from more than 100,000 seized blades, the Knife Angel has now visited over 50 cities and towns throughout the United Kingdom. This tour has set new records for traveling art, both in terms of distance covered and the number of people reached with its anti-violence message. The sculpture serves as a powerful memorial and educational tool, aiming to inspire dialogue and action against aggressive behaviour among youth and broader communities.
