Jack Osbourne Reveals Royal Rule Blocked 'Prince of Darkness' on Ozzy's Death Certificate
Royal rule stopped 'Prince of Darkness' on Ozzy's certificate

In a poignant revelation, Jack Osbourne has detailed the surprising bureaucratic and royal hurdles he faced while registering his legendary father's death. The son of the late rock icon Ozzy Osbourne wanted the death certificate to reflect his dad's monumental status and famous moniker but was prevented by a longstanding rule tied to the British monarchy.

The Registrar's Office Dilemma

Speaking on an episode of his Trying Not To Die Podcast, recorded before he entered the I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! jungle, Jack Osbourne recounted the experience. The 40-year-old explained that he and his sister Kelly, 41, were in an old building in the English countryside when the registrar asked for their father's occupation.

"We put 'songwriter, performer' and then at the end, I was like, 'can I put Rock God?'" Jack recalled. The registrar checked but the unconventional title was not approved. Undeterred, Jack then suggested adding his father's globally recognised nickname, 'Prince of Darkness'. This too was firmly rejected.

"She was like, 'we can't do Prince because it's England... there's a Royal Family,'" Jack explained. The title 'Prince' is protected and significant, reserved for members of the Royal Family, preventing its use on official documents for anyone else.

Settling on a Legendary Title

Ultimately, Jack and Kelly settled on the description 'rock legend' to summarise Ozzy Osbourne's extraordinary career. Jack believed this was an "appropriate" tribute to his father, who would have celebrated his 77th birthday on the day this story emerged.

The Black Sabbath frontman, who grew up in Birmingham, passed away earlier this year. His death certificate officially lists him as a 'rock legend, songwriter and performer'.

Grieving in the Public Eye

Jack Osbourne has been openly discussing his grief while on the ITV reality show I'm A Celebrity. In a heartfelt conversation with comedian and former campmate Eddie Kadi, Jack became emotional describing what he misses most about his father.

"Just his energy," he said, wiping away tears. "He had this force... it was like, he swallowed the galaxy and didn't know what to do with it." Jack also fondly remembered Ozzy's unique humour, stating, "f**** he was funny, definitely miss his jokes."

Jack is scheduled to face the 'Dangerous Discoveries' Bushtucker Trial in the show, searching for stars to win meals for his campmates. I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! airs at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
