Punk rock band Alkaline Trio have cancelled their entire UK tour at the last minute, with the opening show at Birmingham's O2 Institute pulled less than two hours before it was due to start. The band announced the decision on social media at around 5.15pm on Friday, July 3, sparking concern from fans who were already heading to the venue for the 7pm gig.
Band Statement on Matt Skiba's Health
In a statement, the band—comprising Matt Skiba, Dan Andriano, and Tosh Peterson—said: "We are immensely sorry but we must cancel our dates in England, including tonight's show in Birmingham due to medical issues Matt has been suffering from that have worsened. He's gonna be okay but needs to be treated stateside as soon as possible. We will be back healthier and stronger!" The band confirmed refunds are available at the point of purchase.
Support Act Still Performing
Despite the cancellation, tour support Anthony Green will still perform at the Birmingham venue, and fans can watch him for free while still claiming a full refund for the main event.
Fan Reactions
The announcement was met with a wave of support for Matt Skiba from disappointed fans. One wrote on X: "Oh god, I'm so sorry to hear this.
