Chakana pop-up at Billesley Primary School on May 20

Popular Birmingham restaurant Chakana is returning to Billesley Primary School for a pop-up event on Wednesday, May 20. The award-winning Peruvian restaurant, based in Moseley, will use the school's kitchen to prepare and deliver dishes across the city while its main location continues operating as usual.

How to Order

Food can be ordered for collection or delivery on May 20 via Deliveroo by searching for Chakana-Trittiford Road.

Partnership with Eat School Rent

This marks the second time Chakana has cooked at the school as part of a partnership with Eat School Rent (ESR), a social enterprise that helps schools generate income by leasing their kitchens to local food businesses.

Steve Dickinson from Chakana said: “We loved being part of the first Eat School Rent pop-up in the city. The response from the community was fantastic. Returning on 20 May gives us the chance to share even more of our Latin-inspired street food menu while supporting a school at the heart of its community.”

Billesley became the first national partner for Eat School Rent outside London when it launched the programme in April.

School's Perspective

Ryan Hook, Vice Principal at Billesley Primary School, added: “Our first Eat School Rent event was a huge success. It created a real buzz across the school and demonstrated how innovation can be mutually beneficial to both school and local businesses. We’re delighted to welcome Chakana back and to continue leading the way for Birmingham schools.”

Founder's Vision

Eat School Rent founder Ben Rosenberg, who was born and raised in Birmingham, said: “Chakana’s first pop-up at Billesley showed exactly why this model is so important and, crucially, that it works. Rave reviews on the food, the school generated new income, and a brilliant independent restaurant was able to grow its reach without taking on huge costs. Eat School Rent was set up to ensure everyone wins and that schools can access the funding they deserve.”

About Eat School Rent

Eat School Rent’s mission is to tackle growing funding challenges in education by opening up under-used school kitchens to vetted commercial food operators during evenings, weekends, and holidays. The model creates low-barrier revenue streams for schools while giving independent restaurants, chefs, and food businesses access to fully equipped kitchens without the high cost of commercial rents or investment in expensive equipment.
