Claritas Choir Launches Anniversary Year with Treacle Market Appearance

The Claritas choir is embarking on a special year of celebrations, starting with a public performance at the Treacle Market in Macclesfield on Sunday, April 26. Most of the 50-strong mixed choir will gather outside the town hall from 12:30 pm, inviting shoppers to join in renditions of beloved musical favourites.

Supporting East Cheshire Hospice Through Music

This performance is part of the choir's ongoing support for East Cheshire Hospice, with a collection for the charity taking place on the day. Over the past two decades, Claritas has raised an impressive £71,000 for the hospice, including a substantial £10,000 donation last year alone.

Under the direction of musical director Tim Sparks, with pianist Ben Clerk and bass guitarist Theo Wood providing accompaniment, the choir is diligently rehearsing for this event. They are also finalising details for their 20th anniversary celebrations, marking a significant milestone in their charitable journey.

Beyond Concerts: Funeral Support Services

While Claritas regularly performs concerts and sings at special occasions, they also offer a unique service by appearing at funerals. A dedicated group of 10 to 15 choir members is available to enhance and support the singing of hymns, representing the hospice at these solemn events.

In return for their participation, families are encouraged to make a donation directly to East Cheshire Hospice. So far, Claritas has acted as a 'support choir' at three funerals held at St Peter's Church in Prestbury.

Choir member Viv Warrington expressed the group's commitment, stating, "If you'd like us to provide singing support at the funeral of your loved one, we'd be honoured to join you at the ceremony. It is also a way for families to make a donation to the Hospice."

How to Request Their Services

For those interested in engaging Claritas for funeral support, further details can be obtained by emailing secretary Neil O'Dell at claritassecretary@gmail.com. Requests should include the necessary time, date, and location to facilitate arrangements.

This initiative not only provides musical comfort during difficult times but also continues the choir's vital fundraising efforts for East Cheshire Hospice, blending community service with artistic expression.
