Duffy, born Aimée Anne Duffy, became one of the biggest stars in music following the release of her debut album Rockferry at the close of the 2000s. However, after just three years at the peak of her career, she vanished without explanation. In 2020, she publicly revealed that she had been kidnapped, drugged, and raped by an unidentified man in 2010, an experience she described as "unfathomable." She stated she was held captive for weeks, transported to an undisclosed country, and feared she would be "disposed of" before managing to escape.
Official Name Change to Duffy Jones
In preparation for her comeback, it has been reported that Duffy has officially altered her name to Duffy Jones. This change was recorded in documents submitted to Companies House as early as June 14, 2013, where her director details were amended from Ms Aimee Duffy to Ms Duffy Jones. The move has sparked speculation about a possible connection to singing legend Tom Jones, though Duffy has previously dismissed such claims, confirming her father was a pub landlord from Nefyn in North Wales.
"Of course, Jones is a very Welsh surname, but to use it after the rumours about Tom is most bizarre. They always got on so well too," a source revealed to the Daily Mail.
Disney+ Documentary to Offer Unprecedented Access
The upcoming Disney+ documentary promises to provide fans with "new, unprecedented access" to the star. It will feature interviews with her friends, family, and music peers, alongside a rich archive of footage. The film will traverse her upbringing in Wales, her rapid rise to fame, and the traumatic events that led to her withdrawal from public life. A launch date has yet to be announced, but sources suggest the Disney deal was "eye-wateringly huge" and likely instrumental in tempting her out of retirement.
"Having Disney's money involved must surely have made the difference," a source told the Mail. "The Disney deal would have been eye-wateringly huge. If anything is going to tempt her out of retirement and back into public life, it is this; it would have been extremely hard to turn down."
Management and Comeback Attempts
Prior to her return, Duffy has joined TaP Management, the company behind artists such as Dua Lipa and Mabel. Reports indicate there had been "many attempts" at a comeback in 2018 and 2019, though none came to fruition until now.
