Music enthusiasts in Greater Manchester are in for a delightful treat this January, as a rising star of the piano takes to the stage at a historic venue. The popular Friday Lunchtime Concert series at Bury Parish Church continues with a performance by the highly talented Edward Lloyd.
A Promising Talent Takes the Stage
The concert will be held on Friday, 16 January 2026, beginning at 12.30pm within the atmospheric setting of Bury Parish Church on The Rock. Tickets are priced at a very accessible £6 and will be available for purchase on the door. The event offers free entry for accompanied children, making it a perfect family-friendly cultural outing.
To enhance the social experience, refreshments will be on sale in the church from 11.15am, allowing attendees to meet friends and settle in before the performance begins. This creates a wonderfully relaxed and welcoming environment to enjoy live music.
The Journey of a Local Prodigy
Edward Lloyd is a 22-year-old British pianist hailing from Woodplumpton, Lancashire, and is widely regarded as one of the region's most exciting musical prospects. His journey began at the age of eleven, and his prodigious skill was quickly recognised.
His early achievements include winning first prize in the European Piano Teachers’ Association Competition at Chetham’s School of Music in 2017. After his foundational studies at Chetham's under tutors Simon Bottomley, Jeremy Young, and Murray McLachlan, Edward progressed to the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM). He currently refines his craft there under the guidance of Graham Scott.
A Growing List of Accolades
Edward Lloyd's burgeoning career is already decorated with significant awards. His competition successes feature the first prize in the RNCM Beethoven Competition (2021) and the second prize in the Beethoven Piano Society of Europe Senior Intercollegiate Competition, where he represented the RNCM.
Beyond his solo work, he is also a skilled accompanist, honoured with the Alexander Young Prize and the Dorothy Richardson Accompanist Prize. Notable recent engagements include performing with the RNCM Songsters at Manchester's prestigious Bridgewater Hall and making his orchestral debut with the Oxford Festival Orchestra after a performance of Rachmaninoff’s First Piano Concerto.
Edward Lloyd appears by kind permission of the RNCM.
This lunchtime concert promises an uplifting musical break in the heart of Bury and a rare opportunity to witness an outstanding young performer at the dawn of what is sure to be a remarkable career.
