Free Lunchtime Concert Series Welcomes Ukrainian Singer Iryna Muha to Lichfield

Audiences are invited to enjoy a midday musical escape with Home at the Hub, a completely free lunchtime concert series that brings vibrant world music and international artists to The Hub's stage. This April, the popular series welcomes the exceptionally talented Ukrainian singer-songwriter Iryna Muha, whose musical journey spans continents and cultures.

A Versatile Musical Journey Across Borders

Iryna Muha is a remarkably versatile musician proficient in both guitar and the traditional hurdy-gurdy. Her artistic journey represents a compelling narrative of movement across geographical borders, languages, and inner emotional landscapes. Having performed at prestigious events including Eurovision, Latitude Festival, and Boomtown Festival, Muha has also appeared live on BBC Radio 3 and BBC Radio 4.

Her international appearances span multiple continents, featuring performances at Folk Alliance International in the United States, Rupununi Music and Arts Festival in South America, and numerous concerts throughout Ukraine. Her distinctive music has been broadcast on both local and national radio stations across the UK, as well as public broadcasting stations in Los Angeles and Washington.

Musical Roots and Global Influences

Growing up in Ukraine, Iryna's earliest musical memories are deeply rooted in traditional folk songs sung during family gatherings and the quirky, eclectic music of Soviet-era cartoons. These childhood influences uniquely blended Eastern European folk traditions with 1980s synthesizers, jazz elements, and cinematic orchestration.

During her teenage years, Muha moved to Mongolia where she learned to play guitar, drawn particularly to rock music that combined poetic expression with rebellious energy. Hearing Mongolian folk songs—so distinctly different from those of her Ukrainian upbringing—awakened in Iryna a profound new understanding of how sound and landscape fundamentally shape cultural and personal identity.

After moving between Ukraine and the United States, Iryna eventually settled in the United Kingdom where she formed her band MUHA and began writing her own original songs. Her compositions are powerfully shaped by themes of loss, migration, and nostalgic memories of home.
