Griffins Gaming, a family-run store nestled under the railway arches in Digbeth, has become a hotspot for trading card enthusiasts, with customers queuing overnight for new releases. Located on Rea Court behind the O2 Institute, the shop offers a mix of trading card sales and a gaming hall for tournaments and casual play.
What Griffins Gaming Offers
Visitors can purchase trading cards from popular franchises like Pokemon, Magic: The Gathering, One Piece, Star Wars: Shatterpoint, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Digimon. Cards are available in mystery packs or as single cards in secure cabinets, some worth thousands of pounds. The shop also hosts events and tournaments, with casual play available for free.
Community at the Core
Co-owners Eddie Griffiths and Michelle Bolton have built a welcoming space where players of all ages can connect. Michelle noted, "You can talk to people who want to know your favorite Pokemon or discuss the latest One Piece episode. It's about finding your tribe." The shop attracts neurodivergent individuals who feel comfortable being themselves.
Popularity and Challenges
Since opening in July 2025, after four years in Erdington and two years online, the shop has seen growing interest. However, it faced a break-in earlier this year, with thieves using angle-grinders to access the premises. Despite this, the community remains strong, with local art adorning the walls and customers becoming like family.
Griffins Gaming is located at Rea Court, 40 Trent Street, Digbeth, B5 5NL.
