Kelly Osbourne's tearful tribute to father Ozzy

Kelly Osbourne has given an emotional first television interview since the death of her father, rock icon Ozzy Osbourne, breaking down in tears as she accepted a posthumous civic honour for him.

A City Pays Tribute on a Poignant Birthday

On Wednesday, which would have been Ozzy Osbourne's 77th birthday, the city of Birmingham posthumously awarded him its highest civic honour, the Lord Mayor's Award. Deputy Lord Mayor Ken Wood presented the award to Kelly Osbourne in a pre-recorded segment for BBC Breakfast.

The Black Sabbath legend sadly passed away on 22 July at the age of 76, following a Parkinson's disease diagnosis in 2019. A family statement at the time asked for privacy, confirming he was "with his family and surrounded by love."

"I've Never Ever Felt Anything Like Grief"

Speaking to BBC Breakfast presenter Ben Sidwell, Kelly opened up about the profound impact of her loss. She became visibly emotional, stating, "It actually has been horrific. I've never ever felt anything like grief. I never realised that you could love someone so much."

She reflected on her father's final wishes and his enduring connection to his hometown. "He worked so hard to do what he wanted to do most in this world and that was perform one more time and then he was ready to go," Kelly shared. "He made a mark on this planet that will never be erased."

A True Brummie's Legacy

Kelly expressed deep gratitude for Birmingham's recognition of her father. "The fact that he has been recognised in such a way means so much to us because he loved this city," she said. "He loved Birmingham, he was a true Brummie through and through. And to be recognised, as I say, in such a way is just, it's incredible."

She recalled Ozzy's humility following his final concert with Black Sabbath at Villa Park in July, an event that drew global fans to a site just streets from his birthplace in Aston. "I can tell you what he said afterwards. He turned around to my mum and he said, 'I didn't realise people liked me that much,'" Kelly revealed.

"He was the boy from Aston the entire time. He never realised just how incredible he really was," she added, emphasising that he achieved his goal of thanking his fans with one last phenomenal show.
