The latest series of ITV's hit guessing game, The Masked Singer, has barely begun, but one celebrity contestant may already have had their cover blown. Following the debut performance on Sunday night, eagle-eared viewers are convinced that the cheerful character Toastie is none other than beloved This Morning presenter and national treasure, Alison Hammond.
The Accent That Gave The Game Away
Despite attempts to disguise her voice, fans took to social media platform X immediately after the broadcast to point out a distinctive Birmingham accent slipping through. Many noted that beneath a put-on Liverpool twang in the pre-recorded video tape (VT), the unmistakable tones of a Brummie could be heard. This, coupled with a series of seemingly tailor-made clues, has led to a widespread belief that the Great British Bake Off host is inside the giant toasted sandwich costume.
Clues That Point to the TV Queen
The clue package delivered for Toastie aligned remarkably well with Alison Hammond's life and career. Key hints included:
- A diamond, symbolising presenting live TV under pressure on This Morning.
- A clown, referencing her famously larger-than-life and joyful personality.
- A calendar with the date August 20 circled, which matches the 2025 announcement of her National Television Award nomination for Best TV Presenter.
- The statement 'I'm a rebel with a cause, a few causes in fact', fitting with Alison's support for charities like Shelter, Cure Leukaemia, and Macmillan Cancer Support.
- References to 'grafting' and having faced critique in the past.
Furthermore, Alison is no stranger to the Masked Singer format, having previously appeared as Witchetty Grub in an I'm a Celebrity... special edition in 2022.
Viewer Reaction and Series Changes
The fan verdict on social media was swift and unanimous. One viewer wrote, "Alison Hammond? Brummie accent in the VT, couple of references to masterchef and I’m sure she was on the celebrity version." Others simply declared, "TOASTIE SOUNDS LIKE ALISON HAMMOND" and "Omg Stoppppp why do I hear ALISON HAMMOND."
The new series, which began on 4th January 2026, has introduced a format twist: there will now be two unmaskings in every episode. Alongside the main celebrity elimination, the masked lead singer of a band will also be revealed each week. The first episode saw The One Show's Alex Jones unmasked as the Disc Jockey after performing Chappell Roan's 'Pink Pony Club'.
While ITV and the show's producers remain tight-lipped, the court of public opinion has delivered a decisive early verdict on the identity of Toastie. Fans will have to keep watching to see if their detective work, based on that seemingly hidden Brummie accent, proves correct.
