Roman has become the seventh contestant in the history of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire to win the top prize of £1 million. The contestant took the famous seat opposite host Jeremy Clarkson as the new series returned to ITV on Sunday night.
A Rocky Start
Roman got off to a tricky start, using two of his four lifelines back to back. On his £1,000 question, he had to Ask The Audience to find the extra ingredient in mayonnaise, which was eggs. Immediately after, on his £2,000 question, he used Phone A Friend to discover that Uniqlo is a Japanese brand.
Smooth Sailing to the Million
After the rocky beginning, Roman sailed smoothly through to the million-pound question, with his two remaining lifelines still intact. He had a 50/50 and the chance to Ask The Host, Jeremy Clarkson. Roman answered correctly without even using his final lifeline.
The Final Question
The million-pound question was: "Used since 1876, which trademarked logo is described in the James Joyce novel 'Ulysses' and depicted in works by Manet and Picasso?" The options were Bass Ale, Coca Cola, The Famous Grouse, and Stella Artois. Roman chose Bass Ale after using the 50/50 lifeline.
Roman's Reaction
Roman told Clarkson: "It doesn't feel real at the moment, it hasn't sunk in yet." He had previously mentioned wanting a new kitchen with his winnings, but now his aspirations are likely much bigger.
Exclusive Club
Roman joins an exclusive club of just six other contestants who have hit the jackpot on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire since it began in 1998. The last person to win the £1 million top prize on the UK version was Donald Fear in 2020. The history and politics teacher was the first winner of the Jeremy Clarkson era and went all the way using only one lifeline.
