Six Flattering Swimwear Styles for Summer 2026
Six Flattering Swimwear Styles for Summer 2026

Choosing new swimwear can be daunting and exhausting. It generally involves trying on numerous garments and checking the reflection from all angles to find something that's comfortable and looks good. This year's catwalk trends have filtered down to retailers in time for summer. If you’re thinking about getting a new swimsuit or bikini, PA's Lara Owen has shared six flattering styles you might want to consider.

1. Ruching

Ruching seems to be emerging as a firm favourite this season. 'Ruching is brilliant because it works with your body, not against it,' says stylist Oriona Robb. It draws the eye exactly where you want it while providing comfort and flexibility. Avoid excessive gathering and go for well-tailored ruching for a fluid look that sculpts your figure without cutting in or creating a forced silhouette. Try: Cupshe's Tan Lines Only Tummy Control One-Piece Swimsuit (£40).

2. High-Waisted

The retro high-waisted bikini, made famous during the 1950s by icons such as Marilyn Monroe, is popular again this year. Pairing high-rise bottoms with structured tops gives an hourglass silhouette that flatters all body types, says Robb. Polka dots are leading the way, with a full Fifties-inspired two-piece, featuring a belt detail, particularly on-trend. Try: Bravissimo's Palmetto Bay Bikini Top (£36) and matching Palmetto Bay High Waisted Brief (£25).

3. Square-Neck

While the scoop-neck reigned supreme last summer, the square-neck is taking centre stage this season. 'It frames the face beautifully and creates strong lines, making it flattering for both big and small chests,' says Robb. It's an understated design detail that gives any swimwear a contemporary feel. Try: Marks and Spencer's Tummy Control Honey Comb Textured Belted Swimsuit (£36).

4. Bright and Bold

After the minimalism and earthy tones of recent years, runways embraced the brightest of bright colours, from fuchsia to cobalt blue and lime green, either plain or in large florals. 'There's a growing awareness that the right colours can actually change how you feel about yourself,' says Robb. She suggests that deep, standout shades can be empowering and make you feel more confident. Try: Pour Moi's Palermo Floral Panelled Square Neck Swimsuit at M&S (£49). If you prefer plain, there's Next's Watermelon Pink Shaping Tummy Control Swimsuit (£29) which also comes in mango orange and apple green.

5. Strapless

Last year's halternecks have been replaced by bandeau necklines in 2026. They often have detachable shoestring straps and the swimwear can be stirred, ruched or supportive, to suit every figure. 'They pair effortlessly with resortwear to create a complete look, and they're also ideal for avoiding tan lines,' says designer Alexandra Miro. Try: Pour Moi's Santa Monica Regular Fit Bandeau Control Swimsuit at M&S (£45).
