Wife Supports Caleb Shomo After He Comes Out as Gay

Caleb Shomo, the frontman of the metalcore band Beartooth, has publicly come out as a gay man, and his wife, Fleur Shomo, has pledged her support despite describing the revelation as hurtful and disorienting.

Announcement on Social Media

In an Instagram post, Shomo, 33, wrote: "I am a proudly gay man. This is something I've been unpacking and reckoning with in my life for quite some time now." He shared that he spent a decade burying his feelings with alcohol before quitting drinking, which allowed him to explore his sexuality. "It's been a direct path to me reconciling with my sexuality in hopes that it will eventually lead to me experiencing self love," he added.

Wife's Response

Fleur Shomo, who married Caleb in 2012, posted her own heartfelt message online. She acknowledged recent months have been extraordinarily difficult but expressed her unwavering support. "I will always want to love, protect and support Caleb," she wrote. "I have cared more about his well being over the years than anything else in the world." She described watching his confusion and pain while grappling with how it affected her own life. "You never want anything more for your person than for them to just be ok," she said. "To support him while losing everything has been incredibly hard to figure out." Despite the anguish, she maintained their marriage was wonderful and full of love. "Our nearly 14 years of marriage was wonderful and full of so much fun, adventure and love. Nobody will know anything about our marriage like we do. And no one can ever truly know what depths of love exist between two people unless they are those people. I already miss it and my husband more than anything. Our story was a good one. And now it's done."

Musical Evolution

Shomo's upcoming music will reflect his journey, promising to express himself more candidly than ever. Beartooth's 2023 album The Surface hinted at a more optimistic perspective, with tracks like "Might Love Myself" focusing on self-worth. In a previous interview with Rolling Stone, Shomo described a "very revolutionary time" in his life that inspired the record, noting he had long struggled with insecurity and fear of influencing others negatively.

Fans have flooded Fleur's Instagram posts with messages of support during this challenging time for the couple, who have no children together.
