A 15-year-old Birmingham schoolgirl has been sentenced to three years and four months detention after attacking a classmate with a knife in a shocking incident captured on CCTV.
Details of the Attack
The girl, referred to as 'D' due to legal restrictions, launched a premeditated attack at a Birmingham school, lunging at her victim's neck with a box cutter whilst shouting "die b****". The victim miraculously survived with only minor injuries including a cut behind the ear and facial scratches.
Social Media Campaign
Prior to the attack, D had conducted a disturbing social media campaign against her victim, setting up a hate page on TikTok and repeatedly telling friends in group chats that she wanted to kill the girl. She had even named the specific day - a Tuesday - when the attack would happen and asked friends to help her obtain a knife from Amazon.
Background and Behaviour
The court heard how D's behaviour had dramatically deteriorated from being a 'happy, adventurous' child to becoming 'really miserable' and agitated, with her mother describing it as a 'nightmare' trying to get her to attend school. Her family suspected bullying, but school staff were unable to find concrete evidence despite concerns being raised.
Police Interview and Diary Entries
When questioned by police after the attack, D chillingly told officers: "I didn't want her to survive, I wanted to kill her." Her diary entries revealed the full extent of her disturbing mindset, writing "Today I tried to stab [the victim] LMAO" and expressing disappointment that the blade "wasn't sharp enough to cut through."
Verdict and Sentencing
The jury found D not guilty of attempted murder but guilty of wounding with intent and possessing a knife on school premises. Since the incident, she has been diagnosed with autism, though Justice Christina Lambert ruled this did not reduce her culpability.
Judge's Remarks
Justice Lambert said: "Taking a knife on to school premises, which should be a place of safety, and using it in the presence of other children with the intention of causing really serious injury to another schoolgirl is very serious indeed."
