New Nursery with Garden and Play Areas to Open at Birmingham School

A new school nursery is set to open in Birmingham, featuring a garden with raised beds and bespoke play areas. Pegasus Primary School in Castle Vale will welcome younger children starting in September 2026. The school has been awarded a £150,000 grant to build the nursery, which will provide 20 places for two-year-olds and 20 places for three- and four-year-olds before they begin reception at the primary school.

Nursery Features and Curriculum

Nursery staff promise an 'exciting learning environment' with separate spaces for play, learning, and fun, all based on the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum. Children will learn through a mix of child-led play, adult modelling, guided learning, exploration, talk, stories, practical activities, and carefully planned routines. The nursery aims to provide a seamless educational journey, reducing transitions when children join full-time school in reception.

Community Impact

Adam Ames, principal at Pegasus Primary School, said: "We are delighted with the grant to build a new school-based nursery. We know our local families would like their children to start in nursery with us and continue onto primary school. This grant has allowed us to meet the needs of our community while maintaining our reputation for offering a high standard of education."

The nursery will operate during school hours, from 8:30 am to 3 pm during term time, allowing parents to drop off and collect children around the same time as older siblings attending the school. Both 15- and 30-hour free places will be available.

Registration and Context

Parents interested in securing a place can register their interest via an application form. Pegasus Primary School, on Turnhouse Road, is part of the Summit Learning Trust. While a private nursery previously operated on the site, this new nursery will be run directly by the school as part of its provision.
