Fresh weather maps have issued a stark warning for the United Kingdom, predicting the arrival of a colossal 400-mile snow blizzard that will sweep across the nation later this month. The dramatic shift to colder weather is expected to bring significant disruption, with up to 77 centimetres of snow forecast for some regions.
When and Where the Snow Will Strike
According to the latest data from WXCharts.com, the UK is set to experience another major bout of wintry weather around Tuesday, January 27, 2026. The snow system is projected to stretch from the north of Scotland all the way south to London, a distance of approximately 400 miles. The east of England, parts of Wales, and the south west including Bristol are also in the firing line.
The most severe accumulations are anticipated in Scotland and northern England. Northern areas of Scotland, particularly around Dundee and Aberdeen, could see an astonishing 77cm of snow, while other parts may receive up to 50cm. In the north of England, cities like Newcastle could be blanketed by up to 33cm. Even the capital is not immune, with London and much of the rest of the country potentially seeing around 5cm.
A Siberian Chill Descends
This impending freeze is attributed to a Siberian chill pushing across the UK towards the end of January. Temperatures from Scotland to southern England are predicted to plunge several degrees below zero once more. This comes just a week after the chaos caused by Storm Goretti, which brought a 'triple threat' of snow, rain, and high winds, leading to widespread travel delays and cancellations.
The Met Office's long-range forecast, covering January 20 to January 29, supports this outlook. It suggests a "potential transition to colder weather" which would "also increase the chance of snow across parts of the country." The forecast indicates a battle between milder Atlantic air and colder conditions from the east, with the latter expected to gain dominance later in the period.
