Met Office Forecasts Hottest Day of 2026 After Storm Dave
The Met Office has announced that the hottest day of the year so far is expected to arrive in mere days, but the United Kingdom must first endure the impacts of Storm Dave. A yellow weather alert has been issued for parts of northern England, north Wales, Northern Ireland, and all of Scotland, warning of potential disruptions including possible power cuts across affected regions.
Post-Storm Warm Spell Brings Sunshine and High Temperatures
Once Storm Dave subsides over the Easter weekend, forecasters predict a significant shift to sunny conditions next week, with temperatures soaring above 20 degrees Celsius. According to the Met Office, southern areas could see temperatures peak at 23C on Tuesday and Wednesday, marking a notable warm spell after the stormy weather.
This surge would make the UK hotter than several popular European holiday destinations during the same period. For comparison, Ibiza is forecasted to reach only 17C to 18C on those days, while Zante is expected to peak at 21C. The ECMWF weather model indicates deep red areas across England and Wales on Wednesday, signaling temperatures well above the seasonal average.
Detailed Forecast for Early to Mid-April
The Met Office's outlook for April 8 to April 17 describes changeable conditions as Atlantic frontal systems move eastwards across the UK, accompanied by occasional strong winds. These systems will bring spells of rain or showers, heaviest and most frequent in the west and northwest, with drier interludes likely in the south and sheltered eastern areas.
While temperatures are expected to be close to average overall, there may be opportunities for short-lived warm spells in the south and east. Conversely, occasional colder interludes in the northwest could bring wintry showers, especially to hills, and overnight frost.
Residents are advised to stay updated with local weather warnings as Storm Dave passes and prepare for the upcoming temperature rise. The forecast highlights a dramatic weather transition from stormy conditions to unseasonably warm temperatures, offering a brief respite of summer-like weather in early April.
