The next UK mini-heatwave has been officially tipped to arrive as the country sizzles in 22C heat, making it hotter than parts of Spain. Highs could reach 22C over the weekend, with cities like Birmingham facing 21C heat, while Ibiza in the Balearic Islands languishes at just 18C.
Exact Dates of the Heatwave
The warm spell is expected to begin on Friday, April 24, and continue through the weekend, peaking on Saturday, April 25, and Sunday, April 26. The Balearic Island will not be as warm as Birmingham or Manchester during this period.
Met Office Forecast
Steven Keates, deputy chief forecaster at the Met Office, explained: “High pressure will remain broadly in charge of the UK’s weather for the remainder of this week and into the weekend. Most places will remain dry with a fair amount of sunshine too.” He added: “As is often the case, there are a few exceptions, with cloudier conditions for some at times and patchy rain possible for northern Scotland later in the weekend, so keep an eye on the forecast as the week progresses.”
Temperatures are expected to climb steadily, likely peaking in the low twenties on Friday and over the weekend. Onshore breezes will keep some coastal areas cooler, and gardeners should be aware of patchy frost overnight where skies are clear.
Impact on Tourism
Eddy Leviten, Executive Director at Tourism Alliance, commented: “This is when the UK shows what it does best. Few destinations can match the range on offer, with coast, countryside, heritage, events, attractions, culture, and cities, all within easy reach.” He noted that this is a clear window to drive bookings, support jobs, and deliver real value to the UK economy, which is worth £147bn.
Detailed Outlook
A Met Office forecast for Saturday states: “Low cloud and fog patches in the east will again clear by mid-morning. A dry day with sunny spells then follows, although cloudier in the northeast. Feeling warm for most.” The outlook for Sunday to Tuesday adds: “Staying largely fine and dry, with plenty of sunshine through this period. Some overnight fog and frost, mainly in the east. Feeling warm, with temperatures above average for many.”
This mini-heatwave offers a perfect opportunity for residents and tourists alike to enjoy the outdoors, with temperatures surpassing those in popular Spanish holiday destinations.
