Octopus Energy has unveiled its largest 'zero bills' development in Cambridgeshire, where families will pay nothing for home energy for at least 10 years. The energy supplier is partnering with property developer Prosperity Group to create 300 new homes equipped with cutting-edge green technology.
How the Zero Bills Tariff Works
Launched in 2022, Octopus Energy's Zero Bills tariff is a world-first energy plan that allows customers to live in homes featuring heat pumps, batteries, and solar panels. Residents are guaranteed no home energy bills for a minimum of five to ten years.
New data from Octopus Energy reveals a significant surge in demand for green technology. Heat pump sales have increased by 103 percent, solar panel sales by 78 percent, and electric vehicle charger enquiries by 42 percent, as more Britons seek energy independence.
Expansion and Targets
So far, Octopus Energy has approved over 6,000 Zero Bills homes through partnerships with leading developers, covering affordable and private rent, as well as private and shared ownership properties. The company aims to deliver 100,000 Zero Bills homes by 2030 and has already rolled out the initiative in Germany, France, New Zealand, and the UK.
