Aston Villa's holding company, V Sports, has acquired a minority stake in French Ligue 2 club FC Annecy, further expanding its multi-club portfolio as part of a strategy to support the Premier League side.
Expanding the Network
Annecy now joins Japanese side Vissel Kobe and Spanish club Real Unión as part of V Sports' growing multi-club network. Aston Villa also maintains partnerships with Vitória Sport Clube in Portugal, ZED FC in Egypt, and ASEC Mimosas in Côte d'Ivoire.
Led by Villa owners Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris, V Sports has been actively exploring opportunities to broaden its portfolio of clubs across Europe.
Player Development Pathway
Bringing Annecy into the group is expected to provide Aston Villa with another pathway for developing young players, allowing promising academy talents to gain valuable first-team experience in France. This relationship is already in place, with academy graduate Triston Rowe joining Annecy on a season-long loan last summer, while Travis Patterson also moved to the French club in January.
Infrastructure Investment
Reports have also suggested that V Sports could invest in improving Annecy's infrastructure, including its training facilities and the club's Parc des Sports stadium.
Official Confirmation
In confirming the deal, Annecy published on their website: "FC Annecy is pleased to announce the arrival of V Sports, owner of Aston Villa FC, as a minority shareholder in the club. This collaboration is in keeping with the identity of FC Annecy, its local roots and its development."
