Have Your Say on Major New Green Energy Link Between Scotland and England
Have Your Say on New Green Energy Link Scotland-England

The way we power our lives is undergoing a massive transformation, and you have a unique opportunity to help shape it. National Grid has officially opened a public consultation on its updated proposals for the Eastern Green Link 5 (EGL 5). Part of 'The Great Grid Upgrade' - the largest overhaul of the UK's electricity network in generations - this major project is designed to build a more secure, clean, and resilient energy future for us all.

What is Eastern Green Link 5?

EGL 5 is a proposed new electricity link connecting Scotland and England. The plan involves laying subsea cables from Scotland that will travel down the coast and make landfall at Anderby Creek on the beautiful Lincolnshire coastline. From there, underground cables will run to a brand-new converter station before safely connecting the power directly into the national electricity network.

Why do we need it?

The rationale behind EGL 5 is simple: energy independence and sustainability. Scotland is producing an incredible amount of home-grown, renewable power, but we need the infrastructure to move it to where it's needed most. By building this 'electricity superhighway', the project will transport enough clean energy to power up to two million homes and businesses. This will drastically boost Britain's energy security, reduce our reliance on imported fossil fuels, and ensure we can comfortably meet future electricity demands as we transition to net-zero.
