Remus Horse Sanctuary Welcomes Mickey Mouse for 2026 Open Day Season Launch

Remus Horse Sanctuary is extending a warm invitation to families and animal enthusiasts for its inaugural Open Day of the 2026 season, with a delightful surprise guest: Mickey Mouse! This special event promises a memorable afternoon filled with animal encounters and community support.

Event Details and Activities

The Open Day is scheduled for Sunday, May 3, from 1pm to 4pm. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet over 100 rescued horses, ponies, donkeys, and other animals, many of whom have been saved from neglect or hazardous conditions. In addition to exploring the sanctuary grounds, visitors can participate in a variety of engaging activities and enjoy refreshments throughout the afternoon.

A range of drinks, snacks, and stalls offering gifts, books, and bric-a-brac will be available, adding to the festive atmosphere. The sanctuary emphasizes that public support is crucial, as it operates without government funding, relying entirely on donations and event proceeds to continue its essential animal welfare work.

Ticketing and Booking Information

Entry fees are set at £8 for adults and £6 for children. For those seeking a more indulgent experience, a £16 per person ticket includes a cream tea. Booking is strongly encouraged for all tickets, with pre-booking being essential for the cream tea option to assist with catering preparations. Spaces for cream teas are limited, so early reservation is advised to secure a spot.

Sue Burton, founder of Remus Horse Sanctuary, expressed her excitement: "Having Mickey Mouse join us for our Open Day is a real treat for families, and Open Days are a wonderful opportunity for everyone to see the very real difference Remus makes every day for our animals. Your support helps us provide care, shelter and love to horses and ponies who need it most."

Future Open Day Dates and Impact

This event marks the beginning of a series of Open Days throughout the 2026 season. Additional dates include Sunday, June 7; Sunday, July 5; Sunday, August 2; Sunday, September 6, and the final event on Sunday, October 4. All subsequent events will also run from 1pm to 4pm, featuring similar offerings of drinks, snacks, cream teas by advance booking, and a variety of stalls.
